AMCE has a vacancy for an experienced, Resident Engineer. The incumbent will be responsible for providing overall site supervision in the Roads and Transport work activities. The position will report directly to the Manager: Roads and Transport.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Conduct assignments in the Resident/Contracts Engineering field. Plan, organise, and controls complex projects and makes recommendations on alternate solutions to engineering problems. Prepare and present technical reports, institute change in methods, design, or equipment. Assist in the management and development of the Division.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with Consultants’ Project Engineer and other disciplines to achieve the project completion milestones.
- Monitoring the quality & progress of works at Site and participate in Weekly Progress Meeting.
- Responsible to review/approve Engineering ‘As-built drawings and handover these to the Client on completion of the Project.
- He will manage and monitor preparation of Road Engineering Services installed at Project Site for submitting / discussing with the Client to finalize for handing over to the Contractor.
- Ensure that all project deadlines are achieved on time.
- Understand Client’s project requirements.
- Compile bills of quantities, schedules and specifications
- Monitoring and proactive coordination and of project progress and staff deliverables
- Ensure a proper control and maintenance of project documents and records.
- Ensure that all QA procedures and guidelines are followed.
- Coordinate with Consultants’ Project Engineer and other disciplines to achieve the project completion milestones.

- Maintain accurate records and reports related to the project.
- Act as point of contact and coordinate directly with general contractor and negotiate change orders.
- Monitor progress against accepted construction schedule and review the Contractor’s progress reports. Assess the progress and inform the Project Manager and client in case of delay.
- Direct, assist and monitor the performance of Construction Inspection and Office Engineering staff.
- Oversee field site activities and provide technical advice on construction and design.
- Discuss deviations from specified construction materials and procedures with Engineer-In-Charge.
- Regularly review and approve contract submittals and payment applications to contractors.
- Participate in contract close-out activities.
- Conduct regular progress meetings with the contractor and appropriate personnel and report on any issues, as necessary.
- Responsible for reviewing detailed drawings and Method Statements for installation, testing & commissioning of various Civil Engineering Services etc.
- Lead Consultants’ team of Civil Engineers assigning them tasks viz. attending Request for Inspections (RFI’s) and witnessing tests on various Civil Engineering Services installed at Site.
- Other duties will be assigned.
- Construction stage quality monitoring and administrative functions
- Understand and comply with all company client and industry regulatory safety rules and regulations.
- Know and follow pertinent health and safety requirements.
- Recommend ways to improve Health and Safety programs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc, B.Eng, B-Tech Civil Engineering or similar
- Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr.Tech Eng would be an added advantage.
- Registration at least as a candidate Pr.Tech.Eng with ECSA
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 5 Years’ post-graduation experience in site supervision of road construction projects.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Team Player, but must be able to work independently where required
- Good communication skills; must have the ability to communicate at all levels (i.e. contractor & consulting level)
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills
- Must be an Innovative and constructive thinker
- Must be pro-active and show initiative
- Must have sound proven report writing skills
- Must have an ability to work under pressure
- Proficiency in MS Office
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Will be required to travel.
- May deal with difficult clients & service providers.
- May be required to work overtime.
