Assistant Resident Engineer / Engineer Representative

AMCE has a vacancy for an experienced, Assistant Resident Engineer/ Employers Agent Representative. The incumbent will be responsible for providing overall site supervision in the Roads and Transport work activities. The position will report directly to the Manager: Roads and Transport.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Provide overall site supervision in the Road Construction work activities. Assists the Resident Engineer in Planning, organising, monitoring of site activities. Assist the Resident engineer in Preparing and presenting technical reports, construction progress monthly report, financial progress report and ensure quality management is implemented on site.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Resident Engineer in reviewing detailed drawings and Method Statements for installation, testing & commissioning of various Road Engineering Services etc.

  • Attending to Request for Inspections (RFI’s) and witnessing tests on various Road Engineering Services installed at Site.
  • Assist in coordinating with Consultants’ Resident Engineers of other disciplines to achieve the project completion milestones.
  • Assist in monitoring the quality & progress of works at Site and participate in Weekly Progress Meeting.
  • Responsible to review/approve Civil Engineering ‘As-built drawings and handover these to the Client on completion of the Project.
  • He/ She will assist with the management and monitoring the preparation of Civil Engineering Services installed at Project Site for submitting / discussing with the Client to finalize for handing over to the Contractor.
  • Assist with the maintenance of accurate records and reports related to the project.
  • Act as point of contact and coordinate directly with general contractor and negotiate change orders.
  • Assist in monitoring progress against accepted construction schedule and review the Contractor’s progress reports. Assess the progress and inform the Project Manager and client in case of delay.
  • Assist in giving directions, helping, and monitoring the performance of Construction Inspection and Office Engineering staff.
  • Oversee field site activities and provide technical advice on construction and design.
  • Discuss deviations from specified construction materials and procedures with Engineer-In-Charge.
  • Assist in the regular review and approval of contract submittals and payment applications to contractors.
  • Participate in contract close-out activities.
  • Assist in conducting regular progress meetings with the contractor and appropriate personnel and report on any issues, as necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Level of Education & Description: BEng/BTech, Civil Engineering.

Minimum 3 Years’ post-graduation experience in site supervision of road construction projects.

Other Qualification(s): Engineering Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng./Pr Tech Eng.  Pr.CPM / PrCM accreditation would be an added advantage.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Minimum of Three years of working experience in consulting environment doing civil engineering work.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Experienced in coordinating road projects, must be familiar with various types of software including AutoCAD as well as other computer applications such as Microsoft Office. 
  • Day to day running of a complex “live site” on a multi-year project of considerable complexity, balancing the needs of continuity in functionality of the existing units of the facility with the need to upgrade and built new facilities to augment the existing, sequencing of the Works, decanting, answerable to both Client and AMCE professional team, managing a team of discipline specific.
  • Intense knowledge of GCC contract

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Will be required to travel.
  • May deal with difficult clients & service providers.
  • May be required to work overtime
